Working in collaboration with the Ideas Foundation Charity and Department for Culture, Media and Sport to launch Coronation Generation Challenge and involve young people creatively in the Kings Coronation. A team of incredibly talented and motivated designers, copywriters, photographers, and filmmakers and joined by amazing teachers and tutors.
Our goal: To work alongside young people aged 9 to 19 in schools and colleges across the UK and help them tell their stories through the lens of a camera and in words to reflect four themes as the nation looks forward to the Coronation of King Charles III – youth, diversity, sustainability and community.
The more I work with young people, particularly those in areas of the UK where deprivation levels are high, and those with special educational needs the more it reenforces the vitally important role the arts play in state school education.
Through creative expression young people are free to be themselves, to experiment, to dance, sing, shout, play and most of all have fun! We have had the unique privilege to witness young people answering the brief in ways that even the best agencies in the world could only aspire to. With purity of thought, their work is authentic, honest, free, meaningful, and sensitive.
Seeing the world through young people’s eyes, taking the pulse of this coronation generation has both inspired me and at times saddened me. I’ve shed tears of joy and sadness in equal measure and I’m not alone, all of us on the team along with teachers and tutors have seen the transformational power of creativity in the classroom and whilst there is still much to be done with each day complete, we come away feeling that we’ve made a difference.
